January Blues...

This was a quick one. I mainly wanted to capture the snowy tree limbs overhanging the stream without getting into too much detail....but still retaining the sharp sparkle of the fresh snow. The sun was starting to go down and you know how fast the changing shadows change the scene completely. Anyway, I'm happy with what I ended up with!
Acrylic....10 x 10.

more snow....

I'm venturing into oils again...and quite enjoying it. These two snow laden trees begged to be painted... Oil - 8 x 8.

The Pond in January..

This is the snowiest and coldest winter I can remember...another couple months of it so I'll make the most of it and continue painting local scenes. I imagine the water is frozen solid under the snow, but no one is venturing to walk on it, so neither will I. Bright, crisp and clear day. Acrylic....7 x 9.

On a sad note...artist Andrew Wyeth has died at the age of 91. What a wonderful inspiration he was when I first started to paint many years ago. I poured over his prints for hours.

"I believe one's art goes as far and as deep as one's love goes. I see no reason for painting but that." .... Andrew Wyeth

The best part of Ontario winters ( for me ) are the amazing shadows and hues cast on fresh snow. ....especially on a sunny day. I'm painting from my photos taken last week....- 10 c is way too cold to sit outside and paint. A small snow filled creek and two fallen trees near my home inspired this one. Acrylic 5 x 8 .

This fallen tree on a cold but sunny day caught my eye and I saw it as an interesting challenge as to how I could capture it on canves. I'm reasonably happy with how it turned out. Acrylic - 9 x 12.
